Episode 12: The United State of Women

Having had the pleasure of attending the White House Summit on the United State of Women this past June, I am thrilled to share with you what I consider to be a lesson in inspiration.

The summit hosted an array of impressive speakers, featuring President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Representative Nancy Pelosi, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Actress Kerry Washington, and Oprah Winfrey. Valerie Jarrett and Tina Tchen organized and hosted the day-long event.

I spoke with Sophia Bush and Patricia Arquette, both actresses and advocates for change, as well as NASA Astronaut Christina Hammock Koch, Kristin Avery from President Obama’s “It’s On Us” campaign, and other female leaders. Each of them offered their own perspective on the “State of Women” for now and for the future, and told me what they hoped each of us would take away from the gathering.

It was an extraordinary event, the first of what many attendees would like to be a regular occurrence. Over 5,000 people were in attendance.
